Religous Education Update
September brings the return to school, including our own
Sunday School students! We begin where we left off with
our merry band of Sunday School
students delving further into their
Unitarian and Universalist roots.
Our active and inquisitive junior
UU's have been working through
The UU Kids Book learning about
historical figures who lived the UU principles of worth and
dignity of every person and that each person must be free
to search for his or her own truth. We have learned of the
abolitionists, the suffragettes, and the scientists that
pushed past barriers in both society and perspectives of
"faith" to change the world.
We are continuing to build on this by adding pieces of the
Between Sunday's program which focuses on "belief"
and "faith" from a world perspective and includes
activities to refocus the students on what it is to live the
seven UU Principles. I welcome all of you to visit us in our
small attack classroom this fall to see for yourself what
we can accomplish when working together.

Our small church school recently
became proud members of Kids
Care Clubs, a program of
Generation On.
Since 1990, Kids Care Clubs has
empowered children to make a
better world through hands-on
service projects.
Partnered with Quaker Oats,
Generation On and Kids Care
Clubs pride themselves on giving
parents, teachers and youth
leaders the resources they need
to involve kids in the good works
that will mean a brighter future for
all.
Each month the First Universalist
Kids Care Club will participate in
a monthly community service
project with other care clubs
accross the country. We look
forward to seeing our students
grow into members of the
community who give back.
This month's project: Emergency
Preparedness Kits
If I could only speak one prayer for
you, my children, it would be that
your hearts would not only beat but
grow ever greater in gratitude, that
your lives, however long they prove
to be and no matter how they end,
continue to bring you miracles in
abundance.

Unitarian Universalist Principles (Modified for Children)
There are many misconceptions about Unitarian Universalists. One is that we embrace all beliefs; another is that we embrace no
beliefs. The truth lies somewhere in between. The fact is that, as Unitarian Universalists, we are united in our commitment to conduct
a responsible search for meaning, to respect the interdependent web of existence that we are part of, to be advocates and workers
for social justice, and to honor the inherent worth of all beings. As Unitarian Universalists, we affirm and promote seven principles.
These seven UU principles have been modified for children
1. Each person is important.
2. Be kind in all you do.
3. We're free to learn together.
4. We search for what is true.
5. All people need a voice.
6. Build a fair and peaceful world.
7. We care for Earth's lifeboat.
Spirit Play has added color coded to them
1. Respect All People (Red Promise )
2. Offer kind and fair treatment to all (Orange Promise)
3. Grow by Exploring What is True and Right (Green Promise)
4. Believe in our Ideas and Act on Them (Blue Promise)
5. Yearn to Accept and Learn About Ourselves and Others (Yellow Promise)
6. Insist on Freedom, Justice, and Peace for all People (Indigo Promise)
7. Value our home, Earth, that we share with all living beings (Violet Promise)
